There were
magnificent individual performances but it was Manvinder Bisla's 89 and Jacques
Kallis' 69 that took Kolkata Knight Riders past Chennai Super Kings by 5
wickets and to the Indian Premier League podium for the first time ever, on
Sunday.
Chasing a mammoth 191, powered by Suresh Raina's ferocious 73 off 38, Kolkata's
start was disastrous. Skipper Gautam Gambhir fell in the opening over.
It was Manvinder Bisla who took reveresed Chennai's success and struck
boundaries at will to blunt the attack from the hosts. Partnered by Jacques
Kallis, Bisla slammed a quick fifty and continued with his onslaught till the
15th over. He was eventually removed by Albie Morkel.
Kallis continued at the other end but cramps eventually forced his stellar
innings to be cut short in the 19th over.
Shakib al Hasan chose to rise to the ocassion and overpowered a tense situation
to script a memorable win.
